The CHIditarod
CHIditarod surely IS a spectacle. A rolling, rocking, funky artistic, do-good-ing spectacle. Maybe the organizers can explain it better:
“The CHIditarod is a race like none other. It’s a food drive, a race for charity, a beauty pageant, a bar crawl, spontaneous street theater, and not for the faint of heart. It’s fast, furious, cold, creative, exciting, and very, very fun.”
You got it now? No? Let me try again. CHItidarod is a road race in Chicago, where the participants pulling and/or pushing shopping carts. These carts are decorated in crazy creative ways and ALL of this is done for collect food and raise money for the those in need. Quite a fun and amazing event that really does some good! And, oh yeah, they stop at bars along the way.
To get to the bottom of all this, we started out at the top and talked to Devin Breen who is the Co- Founder and President of the Chiditarod Foundation - aka - The Musher in Chief.
Then it was time for some competitors. First up was Amy and Liz from the team 3GSandT. You can donate to their cause or follow them here: https://www.facebook.com/3GSandT/
We then talked to Jeff, from the team Action Squad! They’ve also made some killer carts over the years. Check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/actionsquad/
Next up we chatted with Mayjourio Pope from The Team That Shall Not Be Named.
And last but not least, we talked to Lauren and Alixa who are Team members of Nomeward Bound. If you like what they’re doing, donate! Or follow them here: https://www.facebook.com/nomewardbound/
There was so much passion from all of these teams! They each had their stories as to why the do it and how they started, but one story that came through with all of them was how much FUN the event is and it makes it more meaningful because it’s for such a good cause. Gotta love it! If you want more information or you want to sign up or donate, check out https://www.chiditarod.org/
Here’s a video of the starting line of the 2018 event. This ought to give you a feel for what goes one.
